Gretna towing is a West Bank Jefferson Parish job. A stall on the Westbank Expressway is not the same as a stall in historic downtown Gretna, and neither is a hookup back across the Crescent City Connection. Report the corridor, the river side, and the destination parish before anyone hooks up.
Gretna sits directly across the Mississippi from Uptown. Marrero is the next West Bank city over and already has its own 24-hour towing notes. Harvey, along the canal, has its own breakdown script. Algiers is Orleans Parish on the same bank: car breakdown in Algiers. This page is Gretna. Use the Gretna city hub for the area map.
Start with the Westbank Expressway, downtown, or the bridge approach
Name the pavement. “West Bank” is not an address.
Westbank Expressway
The expressway is the commuter spine. Report the direction, the nearest exit, and whether you made the shoulder. If you are in a live lane, call 911. MAP’s New Orleans routes do not replace a Gretna city-street call. Check 511la.org for incidents while you wait in a safe spot.
Historic downtown Gretna
Downtown Gretna is tighter: older streets, the courthouse area, and river-adjacent blocks. Report the street and the cross street. Say if you are parallel parked between two other cars. A wheel-lift may fit. A low car or a blocked curb may not. Ask for a flatbed if the car will not roll.
Crescent City Connection approach
Every East Bank run from Gretna goes over the CCC or a longer upriver crossing. If you stalled on the approach, say which side of the river you are on and which way you were headed. A Gretna pickup with an Uptown drop-off is a bridge run. A Gretna pickup with a West Bank shop is not. Say that out loud.
Decide whether roadside help may fit
A dead battery, an empty tank, or a flat with a usable spare is often roadside assistance. Gretna pages on this site are also published in Spanish. If the caller is more comfortable in Spanish, say so on the line. Use carro and grúa, not coche.
If a deputy or a lot owner had the car towed, this is Jefferson Parish. Impound questions go through the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office at (504) 363-5500, 1233 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for in-person business. Confirm the actual storage yard with JPSO. Do not drive to the City of New Orleans lot at 400 N. Claiborne Ave unless Orleans Parish is the agency that took the car.
Choose a West Bank destination unless you mean to cross
Name a drop-off before the truck moves the car. A Gretna driveway, a shop off the expressway, or a Harvey address you have already called is enough. “Take it across the river” is a different quote than a drop on Lafayette Street.
You choose the destination on a consented breakdown. If a police officer arranges the tow, Louisiana treats that as a non-consensual tow even when you asked the officer for help. Non-consensual work is rate-capped by the Louisiana Public Service Commission. Those caps are not a quote for a job you book yourself.
Our published light-duty hookup is $95. Confirm mileage and any night charge before the operator rolls. The line takes calls 24/7. Calls to (504) 474-5530 are recorded.
What to confirm with the matched operator
Quick Tow New Orleans matches you with a licensed independent operator. We do not run the truck, the yard, or the bill.
Say this on the call, in this order:
- You are in Gretna, Jefferson Parish, West Bank.
- Westbank Expressway, downtown, or the CCC approach, plus a cross street or exit.
- Year, make, model, color, and whether you have keys.
- What failed, and whether the car rolls or shifts to neutral.
- The exact drop-off, including which side of the river.
- Whether anyone is still with the car.
Ask which truck they are sending. Do not accept a vague “we’ll figure it out on scene” if you already know the transmission is locked.
When to call us
Call when the car cannot stay on a Gretna street or the expressway, and you need a licensed operator to move it to an address you name. Report the corridor and the river crossing before the hook. Call (504) 474-5530.
